This loft apartment on the Lower East Side features a rare private private garden space. Its design connects the inside to the outside while giving the owner privacy in the loft through an operable wooden screen.

The large accordion screen separates the bedroom from the rest of the space while allowing light and views out. The spiral stair and entrance to the bathroom are concealed in the millwork keeping the utilitarian spaces compact.

The slatted screen allows natural light to reach the loft even when closed. A built in bookshelf doubles as the balustrade for the open loft.
